Original Work

Instructions for a Habitat Inventory. This interactive audio piece guided participants through a reflection on their personal habitat, their relationship to it, and its relationship to the larger community.

Canoe Listen: a ritual duet for the lake. An interactive experience designed for two people who want to know each other better, Canoe Listen was written during a Tofte Lake Center artist’s residency in June 2021.

Off Leash. An audio scavenger hunt crafted for Open Streets Lake + Minnehaha, an annual street festival, Off Leash followed the story of a dog who’s lost his owner. Audience members followed clues into local businesses along the festival route to solve the puzzle and reunite Noodle the Dog with his human.

A/part. This interactive work creates a space of ritual and rebellion as audiences are guided through creating their own private ritual, and then challenged to hold onto it in the face of opposition from scripted characters.

Second Skin. Delivered via smartphone, this audio-driven interactive piece provides choices of scenes and endings. The script includes not only the narrative, but a mix of technical and directional instructions for guiding the audience member through a solo experience.

Consumed. This interactive play, inspired by conventional horror tropes and corporate propaganda, included divergent story paths followed by different audience groups. Different endings allowed audiences to make a vital choice on how the story would end. In addition, many contingency paths were written to address possible audience responses.

Once and Future. One part Welcome to Night Vale, one part Hunger Games, and one part escape room, this darkly comedic piece invited the audience to take on the role of inhabitants of a dystopian nation being tested in order to earn full citizenship. This script included a series of branching possibilities triggered according to audience actions.

Translation and Adaptation

Bliss. For my MFA thesis project, I translated and adapted this 1927 Soviet time-travel satire by Mikhail Bulgakov. Working with the Russian source text, I translated the play and adapted its references to be more understandable to a modern, American audience. In addition, I swapped the genders of most of the main characters, putting women at the forefront of the story and sharpening the themes of betrayal and exploitation.
