In the Twinkling of an Eye
by Britain Valenti
Two deities test the boundaries of humanity to determine whether the world is worth saving.
As part of Carnegie Mellon University's New Works series, I worked with MFA playwright Britain Valenti to develop the script for In the Twinkling of an Eye. In rehearsal, the creative team helped develop the script and the characters, composed original music, and choreographed movement sequences. Working on a very tight rehearsal schedule, I guided the creative team through many iterations of the script, while maintaining a cohesive vision for the production. I translated constantly-shifting concept ideas to the design team, and helped the actors navigate a rehearsal process with still-developing characters. I incorporated musical influences from rural America to create a musical palette that drove home the contrast the simple, rustic world of the Earth with the complex, epic world of the Deities.
